Our custom-made stainless steel smoking grate enables a quick conversion of the 270 GS from a grill to a smoker. When smoking, you'll use just one charcoal basket (on the opposite side of the GS as the smoking grate) and insert the vertical divider plate. The smoking grate can be positioned at 2 different levels to accommodate various meat heights (or you can double your smoking capacity by placing two smoking grates, one inverted above the other, creating ~3.25 inches of airflow between the two grates). The smoking grate is the same width as the 270 GS stainless steel rod cooking grate (or 2 interlocking GrillGrates) and can be placed side-by-side (handy if you want to do a reverse-sear, such as in the picture of the chuck roast) or just on it's own (as shown in the smoked chicken picture below). We suggest placing a disposable pan on the bottom of the GS, directly underneath the smoking grate, to catch meat drippings and ease clean-up. Smoking Grate is interchangeable for left or right-side of the GS.
